Abstract: The nucleoplasmic reticulum (NR) is a widespread intranuclear network comprising the nuclear envelope ［the inner (INM) and outer nuclear membranes (ONM)］, the nuclear pore complexes (NPCs), the integral membrane proteins, and the lamina rich in intermediate filament proteins underlying the INM. Therefore, the NR is not only a nuclear boundary, but also an independently functional unit. This article briefly overview the NR structure, function and role to play in the cardiac system.
