    Relationship of artery elasticity function and heart rate turbulence in patients with essential hypertension

    • Abstract: AIM To observation and analysis whether there is a relationship between artery elasticity and heart rate turbulence in patients with essential hypertension. METHODS 150 continuously selected patients with essential hypertension were enrolled into the study. Artery elasticity function was evaluated by detecting the carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity(CF-PWV). Each patient was performed for 24 hours holter monitoring. The indexes of heart rate turbulence were calculated and compared between groups, including turbulence onset and turbulence slope. Patients were divided into four groups by age(21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60 years old) and artery elasticity was compared between groups meanwhile. RESULTS Age, smoking, turbulence onset and turbulence slope was closely related to artery elasticity function (all P<0.01). Pearson correlation analysis was used to evaluate artery elasticity function, turbulence onset and turbulence slope , results showed a positive correlation (related coefficient=0.583, P<0.01) between artery elasticity and turbulence onset, while artery elasticity and turbulence slope was negative correlated(related coefficient=-0.574, P<0.01). CONCLUSION Artery elasticity function is closely related to heart rate turbulence in patients with essential hypertension.
