Abstract: AIM: To determine the therapeutic effects of qidantongmai tablet (QDTMT) against hyperlipidemia. METHODS: We designed a randomized controlled single-blind study. Two hundred and thirty five elderly hyperlipidemic subjects were enrolled and randomized into QDTMT group, Xuezhikang group and placebo group. Serum was withdrawn from subjects and total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC) were detected at the beginning and at the end of the study. Therapeutic effects of QDTMT against hyperlipidemia were analyzed based on the above data. RESULTS: In comparison with placebo, TC and TG were significantly reduced in QDTMT and Xuezhikang groups, and HDLC was significantly increased in QDTMT group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between QDTMT and Xuezhikang groups. CONCLUSION: QDTMT is an effective medicine against hyperlipidemia.
