Clinical significance of plasma haptoglobin levels in patients with premature coronary heart disease with essential hypertension

    • AIM:To investigate the clinical significance of the variations of blood plasma haptoglobin (Hp) in premature coronary heart disease (PCAD) patients with essential hypertension and to study the clinical correlations between the level of plasma Hp and PACDessential hypertension. METHODS: Ninety patients with PACD confirmed by coronary angiography were enrolled in this study and 90 healthy subjects were selected as control. According to the levels of blood pressure (Bp), the patients were divided into three groups: normal Bp group, Grade 1 Bp and Grade 2 group, and Grade 3 Bp group. Plasma levels of Hp were detected, plasma Hp levels between PACD groups and control group were compared and plasma Hp levels and Gensini scores and their correlation were analyzed in the three groups. RESULTS: Plasma levels of Hp in patients with PACD were significantly higher than the levels in control subjects (P<005). Plasma levels of Hp in the three PACD groups were (16±05) ng/ml, (17±04) ng/ml and (20±06) ng/ml, respectively, with significant differences among the three groups (P<005). Gensini scores in the three PACD groups were 32±19, 33±18 and 48±28, respectively, with significant difference among the three groups (P<005). The plasma level of Hp and Gensini score in Grade 3 group was higher than the level in the other two groups (P<005). CONCLUSION: Plasma Hp level has some clinical significance for diagnosis of PACD and assessment of degree of coronary stenosis along with its correlation with the development and advancement of PACD and with the degree of coronary stenosis.
