Clinical application of Fielder XT wire in percutaneous coronary intervention for functional chronic total occlusion

    • AIM:To summarize the application experience of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using Fielder XT wire in treating patients with functional chronic total occlusion (CTO) lesion. METHODS: Data were retrospectively analyzed in patients with CTO who were treated by PCI using Fielder XT wire between January 2011 and October 2012. The success rates of PCI for CTO and the success rates of Fielder XT passing through CTO were, respectively, calculated in patients with functional CTO and with true CTO. RESULTS: The success rates of PCI for functional CTO and for true CTO were, respectively, 88.9% vs. 59.5% (40/45, 22/37, P<0.01) and the success rates of Fielder XT passing through CTO were, respectively, 71.1% vs. 24.3% (32/45, 9/37, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The success rate of Fielder XT in passing through functional CTO is higher than in passing through true CTO. Fielder XT may be the preferred guide wire for functional CTO lesion.
