Safety of intensive statins therapy inChinese patients with acute coronary syndrome: a meta-analysis

    • AIM To review the safety of intensive statins therapy in Chinese patients with acute coronary syndrome. METHODS Randomized controlled clinical trials (RCT) related to intensive statin therapy in Chinese patients with acute coronary syndrome were collected and selected according to inclusion and to exclusion criteria. The methodological quality of the included RCTs was assessed and data analyses were performed with Cochrane Collaboration’s RevMan 5.3. RESULTS In the present investigation, 19 trials, including 2749 patients were selected. Meta analysis showed that intensive statins increased statin-associated muscle symptoms[OR=2.3, 95%CI(1.24, 4.28), P<0.01] and damage liver[OR=2.10, 95%CI(1.36, 3.24), P<0.01], without increasing kidney damage[OR=0.67, 95%CI(0.19, 2.38), P=0.53] and gastrointestinal symptoms[OR=1.05, 95%CI(0.58, 1.93), P=0.72]. CONCLUSION The safety of intensive statins therapy in Chinese patients with acute coronary syndrome is lower than regular statins therapy.
