Relationship between polymorphism of platelet glycoprotein IIb and coronary heart disease

    • AIM: To study the relationship between polymorphism of platelet glycoprotein IIb (GPIIb) and coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS: The study population consisted of 90 patients with CHD whose stenosis or atheromatous plaque in the coronary artery was confirmed by coronary angiography and 75 control cases without stenosis or atheromatous plaque. Peripheral venous blood samples were drawn from all subjects and the GPIIb genotype was determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). RESULTS: The 1930 G/C SNP of GPIIb gene increased significantly in CHD group compared with that in control group (P<0.01). No significant differences in 1977G/T and 1930 C/1977T SNPs were observed between the groups. Adjusted by logistic regression, the increase of 1930C SNP was found an independent risk factor of CHD (OR=3.039, 95% CI 1.433-6.445, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The GPIIb 1930 G/C SNP is associated with CHD.
