Correlation between serum β2-microglobulin level and severity of coronary artery disease

    • AIM:To investigate the correlation between serum β2-microglobulin (β2-MG) level and coronary stenosis degree in coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS: A total of 249 patients undergoing selective coronary angiography were enrolled in this study. The patients were classified into the CAD group and the non-CAD group. The immunity transmission turbidity method was applied to measure serum β2-MG concentration. The possible correlation of serum β2-MG level and SYNTAX score were studied by linear correlation. RESULTS: The levels of serum β2-MG in the CAD group were significantly different from those in the control group (P<0.01). Serum β2-MG level increased along with the extents of coronary stenosis and had a positive association with SYNTAX score (r=0.51, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: A positive correlation exists between serum β2-MG level and severity of coronary stenosis.
