Association between anxiety and cardiac hospitalization in patients with heart failure

    • AIM:To analyze the relationship between anxiety and cardiac hospitalization in patients with heart failure (HF). METHODS: One hundred and twenty-seven heart failure patients admitted to our hospital from November 2012 to May 2013 were enrolled in this study and were assessed by SAS (Self-Rating Anxiety Scale) within 2-3 days after hospitalization. Patients with scores ≥50 were recorded as having anxiety and a 6-month follow-up was conducted for all patients. RESULTS: The 6-month follow-up was completed in 122/127 patients. The prevalence of anxiety was 24.9% (30/122). Comparison of patients with anxiety and patients with no anxiety showed no significant association between anxiety and cardiac hospitalization in HF patients (r=0.085, P=0.64). CONCLUSION: The results of our 6-month follow-up show no obvious association between anxiety and cardiac hospitalizations in HF patients.
