Abstract
Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disorder, which has been the major pathophysiological basis of coronary heart disease. Different methods have been widely used to establish animal models of atherosclerosis in order to explore its pathogenesis, pathological changes, and develop prevention and treatment strategies. This manuscript summarizes establishment of animal models as well as their advantages and limitations in terms of mechanism of atherosclerosis, focusing on discovering one ideal animal model to provide new insights in the study of atherosclerosis.
