Abstract
AIM To evaluate the effect and safety of trimetazidine in patients with unstable angina pectoris (UAP). METHODS Seventyfour patients with UAP were randomly divided into two groups: routine treatment group and routine plus trimetazidine group with 20 mg three times a day. and the results were compared. The curative effect and the changes of ECG, Holter, the tolerence and side effect to trimetazidine were compared before and after the treatment. RESULTS After the treatment, the rate of curative effect of trimetazidine treatment group was 86.5% while that of routine group was 62.2%. The improvement rate of ECG of two groups was 72.9% and 48.6%, respectively. Holter showed that the times of ischemia and the total time of ischemia of the trimetazidine group decreased significantly (P<0.05). The patients had good tolerance to trimetazidine and no obvious side effects were found. CONCLUSION On the basis of regular treatment, combined treatment of trimetazidine can more effectively control UAP.
