Mesenchymal stem cell transplantation in cardiac regeneration

    • Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have plutipotential which has been comfirmed in vivo and in vitro. MSCs can differentiate into multilineages including cardiomyocyte. MI leads to a mass loss of functional myocytes, promoting the ventricular remodeling and ventricular dysfunction, and eventually causes congestive heart failure. When implanted into the infarct region, MSC can home to the injured, differentiate into cardiomyoctye and make some improvement of the heart function. So MSCs are excepted to be an ideal cell source of cell transplantation and regenerative medicine. The article is to review the recent progression in MSCs transplantation for myocardial regeneration.
