Role of microRNAs in vascular calcification

Vascular calcification is commonly found in coronary heart disease. Many studies reinforced that miRNA is an important regulatory factor in the development of vascular calcification. Study progress showed that miRNA could induce vascular calcification by regulating smooth muscle cell (SMC) transdifferentiation, regulating calcium and phosphate homeostasis and downregulating the SMC contractile phenotype, etc. In this article we summarized the functions of miRNAs in the process of vascular calcification.
