Abstract
Alarin is a newly discovered member of the galanin family. Until now there have been few studies conducted on its specific functions and mechanism. Some studies have shown that alarin is distributed in the cutaneous vascular smooth muscles and plays roles in antiedema, blood vessel constriction and skin blood flow reduction. Alarin can be used in the treatment of edema and shock diseases. However, there have been no reports on alarin in relation to the cardiovascular system. Given that alarin is a potent vasoactive substance, it may play some important roles in the regulation of the cardiovascular system.
