Short-term efficacy of astragalus injection combined with metoprolol in treatment of heart failure and its influence on serum BNP and CA125 levels

    • AIM To explore the short-term efficacy of astragalus injection combined with metoprolol in treatment of heart failure and its effect on serum BNP and CA125 levels. METHODSOne hundred and twenty-four patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) were randomly divided into two equal groups: reagent group and control group. Control group received liquid metoprolol treatment and reagent group was treated with astragalus injection in addition to liquid metoprolol. Serum BNP and CA125 levels in the two groups were detected after admission and 24, 48 and 72 h after treatment. RESULTSCompared with those before treatment, serum BNP and CA125 levels in both groups were significantly lower after treatment (P<0.05). Compared with those in the control group, the short-term curative effect was better (P<0.05) and serum BNP and CA125 levels were significantly lower (P<0.05) in reagent group, 24, 48 and 72 h after treatment. Over time, serum BNP and CA125 levels reduced gradually after treatment in both groups (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONShort-term efficacy of astragalus injection combined with metoprolol is better than metoprolol alone and can significantly reduce serum BNP and CA125 levels in CHF patients.
