Abstract
AIM: To study the characteristics of heart rate variability (HRV) in patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS). METHODS: Antecedents of diabetes, blood pressure, blood lipids, highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol and waisthip ratio were compared among patients with MetS and control group. RESULTS: Compared with those in the control group, HRV in MetS patients was significantly reduced (P<001), and antecedents of diabetes, high blood pressure, waisthip ratio in partial frequency domain or time domain index were lower (P<005). CONCLUSION: Autonomic functions in patients with MetS show varying degrees of impairment and history of diabetes, high blood pressure and waisthip ratio affect autonomic functions in patients with MetS.
