Changes of peripheral blood levels of total Immunoglobulin E in patients with coronary heart disease

    • AIM To evaluate the changes of the total immunoglobulin(Ig)E concentration in patients with different forms of coronary heart disease (CHD) and the dynamic changes of serum IgE concentration in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and to explore the possible difference of total IgE concentration between CHD patients and healthy control. METHODS The study included 56 patients: 22 AMI patients, 17 patients with unstable angina (UA) and 17 patients with stable angina pectoris. The control group consisted of 17 healthy, age-matched individuals. All the subjects have no personal and family history of allergy. Total serum IgE concentration was measured with Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). RESULTS In patients with coronary heart diseases [AMI group: (179±159)kU/L, P<0.01; UA group: (131±78)kU/L, P<0.05; SA group: (127±65)kU/L, P<0.05], significantly increased concentrations of serum immunoglobulin E were found, as compared to those in the control group [(52±30)kU/L]. Changes of IgE serum concentration on the 1st day, 7th day, 14th day and 30th day after AMI did not reveal any significant differences. CONCLUSION The total IgE concentration in patients with CHD increases.
