Abstract
AIM: To investigate the relationship between metabolic syndrome (MS) and cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: A total of 438 patients with T2DM were grouped into MS group and non-MS group and the incidence of CAN was compared. Correlation and regression analyses were performed. RESULTS: Patients in MS group had a higher prevalence of CAN than in the non-MS group, and MS features were positively correlated with CAN scores. Diabetic duration, triglycerides, systolic blood pressure and glycosylated hemoglobin were all independent risk factors for CAN. CONCLUSION: MS is significantly associated with CAN in patients with T2DM.
