Mechanism of dysfunctional high-density lipoprotein-induced atherosclerosis

    • In recent years it has been found that high-density lipoprotein, hailed as “good LDL” in some studies, is reduced and its structure changes in some diseases such as type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and systemic lupus erythematosus. The reversed function accelerates the development of atherosclerosis and enhances risks of cardiovascular disease. This paper reviewed the anti-atherosclerosis mechanism of functional and dysfunctional high-density lipoprotein.
