Abstract
AIM:To determine whether hyperthyroidism has an effect on ventricular repolarization. METHODS: PUBMED, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI), VIP-database and Wanfang Database were searched. Case-control studies focusing on hyperthyroidism and ventricular repolarization published between 1960 and 2013 were collected. RevMan 5.2 was used to perform the meta-analysis. RESULTS: The meta-analysis included seven case-control studies and a total of 425 hyperthyroid patients and 366 healthy controls were included. Compared with controls, hyperthyroid patients showed a prolonged QT interval (MD=18.46, 95%CI=10.19 to 26.73), P<0.01) and a prolonged QT interval dispersion (MD=19.38, 95%CI=13.59 to 25.18, P<0.01). Moreover, QTc was negatively correlated with the logarithm of TSH levels (Pearson correlation coefficient r=-0.748, P<0.01; weighted linear regression coefficient R2=0.557). CONCLUSION: Hyperthyroidism is associated with ventricular repolarization prolongation.
