Abstract
AIM: To observe the therapeutic effect of reduced glutathione and L-carnitine on acute viral myocarditis. METHODS: Seventy patients with viral myocarditis were randomly divided into therapy group and control group. Control group received routine treatment and therapy group received reduced glutathione and L-carnitine in addition to routine treatment. RESULTS: In the therapy group, 69% of the cases recovered compared with 46% of the cases in the control group (P<0.05). Heart function in the therapy group improved significantly compared with that in the control group (P<0.05). No adverse effect in the therapy group was found. CONCLUSION: Reduced glutathione and L-carnitine combined with routine therapy is safe and effective in the treatment of viral myocarditis.
