Self-management status and influencing factors in middle-aged patients with hypertension

    • AIM:To study the self-management status and influencing factors in middle-aged patients with hypertension. METHODS: A questionnaire survey for self-management and influencing factors was conducted in 120 cases of hypertensive patients from 2010 to 2012. RESULTS: The scores of activities of daily living, cognitive symptoms, disease management and self-management were, respectively, (12.4±3.7) points, (13.0±2.8) points, (19.2±3.6) points and (44.6±6.5) points. Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the activities of daily living were mainly affected by self-efficacy, attitudes and education level. Cognitive symptoms were mainly affected by education level, knowledge of hypertension and genders. Disease management was mainly affected by self-efficacy, knowledge of hypertension and family history of hypertension; and patient self-management dimension was affected mainly by self-efficacy and attitudes towards the disease (all P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Self-management in middle-aged patients with hypertension should be improved and the main influencing factors are self-efficacy, attitude, educational level and hypertension knowledge, gender and family history.
