Effect of health education on personal care behavior in patients with chronic heart failure

    • AIM:To explore the impact of health education on personal care behavior in patients with chronic heart failure. METHODS: Ninety patients with heart failure were randomly divided into educational intervention group (n=43) and control group (n=47). Educational intervention was primarily the extension of knowledge on the pathogenesis and prevention of heart failure, including daily personal care, medication and dietary principles and exercise requirements. A 3-month follow-up was conducted in the form of questionnaires or telephone visits and self-care data were collected. The correlation between medication compliance and education level was analyzed. RESULTS: No obvious difference was found in self-care behavior between groups before the intervention, but after the 3-month educational education, the self-care behavior in intervention group was significantly better than in control group (P<0.05). Medication adherence and educational level were positively correlated in chronic heart failure patients (r=0.882, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Educational intervention can improve self-care behavior in patients with chronic heart failure. The higher the educational level, the better the medication compliance in patients with chronic heart failure.
