Therapeutic effects of buyanghuanwu compound in patients with angina after coronary artery stenting

    • AIM To observe the clinical curative effects of buyanghuanwu compound on patients with angina after coronary stenting. METHODSPostoperative patients with angina were randomized into two groups: routine medication team and buyanghuanwu compound team. All patients received regular follow-up and medications were adjusted as necessary. Frequency of angina attacks was recorded. ECG changes were detected by treadmill ECG examination. Levels of NO, ET-1, hs-CRP, and VEGF in peripheral blood were assayed. We also observed the area of ischemic myocardium using resting myocardial scintigraphy. RESULTSBuyanghuanwu compound significantly reduced frequency of angina attacks in postoperative patients with angina pectoris. At 6 postoperative months, treadmill ECG examination showed a significant increase in negative rate and decline in positive rate in the group administered buyanghuanwu compound, whereas the control group showed no significant differences. At 1 postoperative month, NO levels significantly increased and hs-CRP and ET-1 significantly decreased in two groups, but the changes were more obvious in the buyanghuanwu compound group. After 6 months treatment, VEGF level significantly increased compared to levels before treatment in the buyanghuanwu treatment group. Control group showed a significant difference. The results of resting myocardial scintigraphy showed that myocardial ischemic area was obviously decreased after a 6-month treatment with buyanghuanwu compound, whereas changes in the control group were not obvious. CONCLUSIONDecrease in the frequency of angina attacks in the buyanghuanwu compound group is superior to the group administered routine medication in coronary stent patients with angina pectoris.
