Combination of ankle-brachial index and coronary artery calcium score as a predictor for 3-vessel coronary artery disease

    • AIM To discuss the predictive value of the combination of ankle-brachial index(ABI) and coronary artery calcium score(CACS)for 3-vessel coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS This study enrolled 96 patients, who underwent ABI measurement and 64-channel multidetector CT , for their CACS before coronary angiography. RESULTS The respective sensitivities of ABI and CACS for 3-vesssel CAD were 58% and 64%, and the specificities were 87.3% and 85%. After combining the two methods, the sensitivity was notably improved to 85%, but the specificity was decreased to 82%. CONCLUSION ABI<0.9 and CACS>400 can be used to predict 3-vessel CAD, but the predictive value is notably improved after the combination of ABI<0.9 and CACS>400.
