Evaluation the effect of recombinant Peroxiredoxin-2 protein in diabetic cardiomyopathy rats cardiac function by Echocardiography

    • AIM To explore the effect of exogenous recombinant Peroxiredoxin-2 (rePrx-2) in diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) rats by Echocardiography. METHODS SD male rats were divided into control group (n=10), DCM model group (n=10), and treatment group (DCM+rePrx-2, n=10). rePrx-2 protein was given by abdominal subcutaneous micro osmotic pump after completion of the DCM model. Echocardiography was used to observe heart structure and function damage of the DCM rat at 12 weeks after DCM model completion. HE and Masson staining were used to observe the pathologic process in the myocardial tissue of DCM rats. RESULTS Compared with the DCM group, rePrx-2 protein significantly decreased cardiac systolic ventricular septal thickness (IVSs), diastolic ventricular septal thickness (IVSd), left ventricular systolic diameter (LVIDs), diastolic left ventricular diameter (LVIDd), diastolic left ventricular posterior wall thickness (LVPWd) and systolic left ventricular posterior wall thickness (LVPWs), (all P<0.05). rePrx-2 protein significantly increased cardiac function indexes of ejection fraction (LVEF) and shortening fraction (LVFS) (all P< 0.05). HE and Masson staining also revealed DCM group myocardial fibrosis damage was improved by rePrx-2 protein. CONCLUSION Echocardiography effectively confirmed the protective role of rePrx- 2 in DCM rats myocardial remodeling and cardiac function.
