Effect of qidantongmai tablet in the treatment of angina pectoris

    • AIM: To observe the effect of qidantongmai tablet (QDTMT) in the treatment of angina pectoris (AP). METHODS: Two hundred and five patients were randomized into QDTMT group and yangxinshi tablet (YXST) group. QDTMT (4 pills/day) and YXST (2 pills/day) were given, respectively, in the two groups for 28 days. The following changes were observed: frequency, persistence time and degree of pain of AP, dose of nitroglycerin used, chest distress, breath holding, arrhythmia, shortness of breath, lassitude and hypodynamia, spontaneous perspiration and electrocardiogram (ECG) changes. RESULTS: After 28 days, the total effective rate and excellence rate were 78.6% and 35.9% in QDTMT group, respectively, whereas those in YXST group were 71.6% and 30.4%, respectively. Total effective rate and excellence rate of traditional Chinese medicine symptoms were 91.3% and excellence rate was 35.9% in QDTMT group, whereas those were 86.4% and 27.5%, respectively, in the YXST group. ECG results showed that the total effective rate and the excellence rate were 45.6% and 21.4%, respectively, in the QDTMT group, whereas those were 34.3% and 9.8% in YXST group, respectively. No significant difference was found in the total effectiveness rate of AP and traditional Chinese medicine symptoms between QDTMT group and YXST group, but EKG results showed significant difference between the groups (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: QDTMT is effective in treating AP.
