Incidence and distribution of arrhythmia in patients with pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome

    • AIM To describe the incidence and distribution of arrhythmia in patients with pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) syndrome. METHODSElectrocardiogram (ECG) was examined in women with pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome (observation group n=280) and normal pregnant women (control group n=280). ECG changes in both observation group and control group before and after childbirth and arrhythmias in different stages of PIH were observed. RESULTSIn observation group, the prenatal rate of arrhythmias was higher than the postnatal rate, with a statistically significant difference (58.2% vs. 20.0%, P<0.05). Prenatal rate of arrhythmias in the observation group was statistically different compared with that in the control group (P<0.05). The rate of arrhythmias was also significantly different in different stages of PIH (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONThe prenatal rate of arrhythmias is higher than the postnatal rate in women with PIH syndrome. The rate of arrhythmias in women with PIH syndrome is higher than the rate in normal pregnant women. The rate of arrhythmias increases with the development of hypertension.
