Association between white blood cell counts and coronary stenosis

    • AIM:To explore the association between white blood cell (WBC) counts and coronary stenosis. METHODS: According to coronary artery angiography, 106 patients were classified into two groups: stenosis and non-stenosis. Factors such as age, gender, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, smoking, WBC counts and results of coronary artery angiography were analyzed and compared between groups. RESULTS: Significant differences were observed in hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, smoking, gender, and WBC counts between groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age, gender, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, smoking, and WBC counts were risk factors for coronary stenosis and WBC counts showed a linear correlation with the severity of coronary stenosis (r=0.32, P<0.05). CONCLUSION: WBC counts are closely associated with coronary stenosis. Further studies are needed to assess the predictive value of WBC counts for coronary stenosis and coronary heart disease.
