Study on serum interleukin-1β level in depressed patients with coronary heart disease

    • AIM: To investigate the influence of depression on the serum interleukin-1β level of patients with coronary heart disease (CAD) with stable angina pectoris (SAP). METHODS: Eighty-six patients (age≥50 years) with CAD with SAP admitted to our department from August 2007 to December 2007 were divided into two groups by ZHUG questionnaire (SDS) scores: Group A (patients with depression, n=62) and Group B (patients without depression, n=24). We analyzed the clinical data, serum lipids, blood glucose and interleukin-1β level of all patients in the two groups. RESULTS: No significant difference was found in age, gender, smoking, alcohol use, educational level, complications of hypertension, and complications of diabetes. The level of interleukin-1β in patients with CHD accompanied by depression was significantly higher than in patients with CHD without depression (P<0.05). Correlation analysis results showed that the SDS score was positively related to the level of interleukin-1β (r=0.35, P<0.05). No significant difference was observed in lipid level between groups and no correlation was found with interleukin-1β level. CONCLUSION: The level of interleukin-1β was positively related in CHD patients with SAP accompanied by depression.
