Effects on biocompatibility of composite materials of magnetic microsphere poly(L-lactide)

    • AIM: To investigate the effects of new magnetic composite materials regarding magnetic microsphere (MMS) and poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) on proliferation of vascular endothelial cells (VEC). METHODS: Different contents of MMS/PLLA and rapamycin/MMS/PLLA were added to the cell culture medium and kept under standard conditions for 4 days. MTT was used to determine the amount of VEC proliferation. RESULTS: The amount of the VEC proliferation was significantly higher than in the control group (P<0.05). There was a higher proliferation of rapamycin/MMS/PLLA than rapamycin/PLLA (P<0.05). Magnetic composite materials significantly weakened the inhibitory effect of rapamycin on endothelial cells. CONCLUSION: Magnetic composites may promote the growth of vascular endothelial cells.
