    Application and evaluation of microlectures combined with case-based learning in instruction of low temperature influence on cardiac and pulmonary functions

    • AIM To evaluate the practical efficiency of microlectures combined with case-based learning in the instruction of low temperature influence on the cardiac and pulmonary functions. METHODS A total of 60 students of a 5-year medical curriculum were chosen for this study. The enrolled students were randomly divided into control group (Class A, 30 students) and experimental group (Class B, 30 students). The traditional teaching method was used for instruction in Class A, while the new method of microlectures combined with case-based learning was used in Class B. In both classes, the students were subdivided into 5 groups (6 people per group). At the end of the course, effects of teaching were evaluated by score analysis and questionnaire survey. Students' evaluation of the teaching effectiveness was expressed as percentage. RESULTS The total score in experimental group was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.01). The questionnaire results revealed that microlectures combined with case-based learning was significantly more efficient than the traditional teaching method. The new method not only enhanced students' learning interests and independent thinking, but also improved their knowledge-acquiring ability. CONCLUSION The application of microlectures combined with case-based learning in the instruction of low temperature impact on cardiac and pulmonary functions significantly improves the effect of classroom teaching, helps the students better master the theoretical knowledge and improves their comprehensive ability.
