Abstract
AIM: To investigate the association between anxiety and the severity of coronary artery lesions in patients with acute coronary syndromes( ACS). METHODS: Self-rating anxiety scale( SAS)and left ventricular ejection fraction( LVEF) were measured in 180 ACS patients, who were divided into anxiety group and non-anxiety group. All patients underwent coronary artery angiography( CAG) and the severity of coronary artery lesions were estimated by the coronary angiographic Gensini score. Correlations of the SAS score and the Gensini score were analyzed. RESULTS: According to the SAS score,82 cases were assigned to non-anxiety group and 98 cases( mild 54 cases, moderate 30 cases, severe 14 cases) to anxiety group. The Gensini score in anxiety group was higher than the score in non-anxiety group( 36 ±22 vs. 25 ± 13,P < 0. 01). The SAS score was correlated with the Gensini score in ACS patients( r =0. 36,P < 0. 01). CONCLUSION: Degree of anxiety is correlated with the severity of coronary artery lesions and has significant prognostic value for patients with ACS.
