Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is a global health problem. In recent decades there has been an alarming increase in the prevalence of cardiovascular disease but the etiology of this increase is still obscure.Recent etiological evidence has indicated that the prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes(key risk factors for cardiovascular disease) is correlated with B-vitamin consumption.Numerous studies have demonstrated that niacin,a major B vitamin, can induce insulin resistance and glucose intolerance.High intake of B vitamins may thus be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. This minireview will briefly discuss the relationship between excess B-vitamin intake and risk of cardiovascular disease.
