    Scenario simulation combined with case-based learning: teaching cardiopulmonary function training and assessment in hypoxic plateau environment

    • AIM  To evaluate the effect of scenario-simulation combined with case based learning (SS-CBL) in cardiopulmonary function training and assessment teaching in plateau hypoxia.
      METHODS  179 five-year clinical medicine students were randomly selected as the research subjects and divided into a control group (n=89) and an experimental group (n=90). The control group received traditional CBL teaching, while the experimental group received scenario simulation combined with CBL teaching. The teaching content is cardiovascular and pulmonary function training in high-altitude environments. The evaluation of teaching effectiveness after classroom teaching is conducted through in class examination analysis and student questionnaire survey.
      RESULTS  Compared with the control group, the experimental group showed a significant improvement in practical skills assessment (P<0.01); The results of the questionnaire survey showed that the evaluation of teaching effectiveness in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the traditional teaching mode, and showed a higher recognition rate for seven teaching effectiveness indicators such as “improving learning attention” (P<0.05, P<0.01).
      CONCLUSION  The application of scenario simulation combined with CBL teaching mode in the evaluation of cardiovascular and pulmonary function training in high-altitude environments has shown significant results and effectively improves teaching quality. It is worth promoting and applying in other teaching activities.
