Clinical application value of left atrial strain assessment of left ventricular diastolic function in cardiovascular diseases

Abstract
Left atrial strain, an emerging indicator of left atrial function, allows for the analysis and measurement of left atrial myocardial mechanics throughout the entire cardiac cycle, quantifying the cardiac diastolic function with various significant clinical applications. In cardiovascular diseases, alterations in left atrial function precede structural remodeling of the left atrium. By identifying abnormal left atrial function through the measurement of left atrial strain, timely recognition of malignant disease progression and increased risk of adverse events can be achieved, enabling early intervention to improve risk stratification and prognosis for patients. This review summarizes the published clinical evidence regarding left atrial strain and discusses its clinical significance, latest applications and future prospects.
