Research progress on fully subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillators

    • The entirely subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (S-ICD) is an effective treatment strategy for preventing sudden cardiac death and is an alternative to intravenous implantable cardioverter defibrillators in specific patients. S-ICD does not have a transvenous lead, avoiding the risk of vascular damage, reducing the potential risk of systemic infection, and preserving venous access, avoiding complications related to intravenous wire, it is the preferred treatment option for patients who do not require bradycardia, cardiac resynchronization therapy, or anti tachycardia pacing. This article summarizes the implantation, target audience, and removal of S-ICD, discusses its advantages and disadvantages, and reviews the latest research progress.
