Abstract
The prevalence of various diseases, such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, has significantly risen with advancing age, resulting in substantial economic strain on patients and their families. Extensive research, both in basic and clinical settings, has demonstrated the anti-hyperlipidemic, hypoglycemic and anti-hypertensive properties of berberine, the primary bioactive constituent of the traditional Chinese medicine coptis. Recent investigations have further indicated that BBR extends the lifespan of drosophila and aging mice and that it mitigates premature cellular aging, both suggesting its potential as a natural anti-aging pharmaceutical agent. This article aims to examine the role and mechanism of berberine in the context of cardiovascular diseases associated with the process of aging.
