Application of PBL and CBL combined with simulation training platform in aerospace cardiovascular physiology related teaching

    • AIM To explore the application and effect of problem based learning (PBL) and case based learning (CBL) combined with simulation training platform in aerospace cardiovascular physiology related teaching.
METHODS A total of 69 subjects, including 5 eight-year-program undergraduate students majoring in aerospace medicine and 64 trainees of post-oriented training courses for flight surgeons in the Air Force Medical University were selected for this study. Thirty-two trainees of post-oriented training courses for flight surgeons adopted PBL and CBL teaching method and served as the control group. Five eight-year-program undergraduate students and the other 32 trainees of post-oriented training courses for flight surgeons were assigned to the experimental group and PBL and CBL combined with simulation training platform teaching method was adopted. After completion of the course, the effects of different teaching methods were compared by the results of theory and operational assessments, teaching satisfaction investigations, and feedbacks from their working posts.
RESULTS The results of theoretical and operational assessments, teaching effects and students’ satisfaction of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). Meanwhile, the feedbacks from the working posts showed that the experimental group students’ awareness and capability of guiding pilots in anti-load movements and acceleration training were significantly higher than those in the control group.
CONCLUSION The application of PBL and CBL combined with simulation training platform teaching method in aerospace cardiovascular physiology related teaching can help students better master complicated knowledge, effectively enhance their learning efficiency and interests, and actively put knowledge into practice.
