Research progress of new-onset peridevice leak after left atrial appendage closure procedure

    • As one of the three main treatment strategy in atrial fibrillation, management of stroke prevention has always been the focus in clinical study and practice. To patients who have been diagnosed with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, almost 90% of clots are located in the left atrial appendage. Therefore, left atrial appendage closure, a non-pharmaceutical therapy for stroke prevention, enters our vision. The most common complication of LAA closure is peridevice leak, just as bleeding to oral anticoagulation drug, nevertheless, it’s still not clear and definite whether this leak may increase thromboembolism or other risk. Even so, we should bear in mind that it is essential to provide targeted follow-up and antithrombotic management for people with leakage. This article reviews the development of new-onset peridevice leak after left atrial appendage closure procedure.
