Association of helicobacter pylori infection and VEGF, MMP-9 and coronary artery lesions in patients with coronary heart disease

    •   AIM  To investigate the relationship between Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection and serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and coronary artery disease in patients with coronary heart disease.
METHODS  From January 2014 to June 2019, 160 patients with coronary heart disease were selected and divided into two groups according to HP infection: HP negative group (n = 59) and HP infection group (n = 101). HP infection group was divided into mild HP infection group (n = 63) and severe HP infection group (n = 38). Case control study was used to analyze the related factors of HP infection and its correlation strength by univariate analysis, multivariate analysis and correlation analysis.
RESULTS  In CHD, the expression levels of VEGF and MMP-9 and Gensini score in HP infection group were significantly higher than those in HP negative group (P < 0.01); compared with mild HP infection group, VEGF and MMP-9 expression level and Gensini score in severe HP infection group were significantly higher (P < 0.05); and the level of serum VEGF, MMP-9 and Gensini score were positively correlated with HP infection (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION  HP infection is positively correlated with VEGF, MMP-9 and Gensini score in patients with coronary heart disease.
