Application of PAD class teaching mode in the case practice course of cardiovascular disease aeromedical evaluation

    •   AIM  To evaluate the effect of presentation-assimilation-discussion (PAD) class combined with case-based teaching in the practice teaching of cardiovascular disease aeromedical evaluation.
METHODS  32 undergraduate students of 2016 five-year program of aerospace clinical medicine in Air Force Medical University were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, 16 in each group. The traditional teaching method was used in the control group and the PAD class which combined with teacher's explanation and student case discussion was used in the experimental group. After the course, the teaching effects of the two groups were evaluated by theoretical test, case analysis and questionnaire survey.
RESULTS  Compared with the control group, the results of case analysis in the experimental group were significantly improved (P<0.05). The questionnaire survey results showed that the students in the experimental group had higher subjective learning initiative and stronger ability of aeromedical thinking (P<0.05).
CONCLUSION  PAD class combined with case-based teaching is feasible and effective in the teaching of aeromedical evaluation of cardiovascular disease. It is mainly applied in the teaching of aeromedical evaluation for common diseases of flying personnel.
