Analysis of influence of different types of aircraft on blood pressure of pilots

    • AIM To analyze the effects of different types of aircraft on the blood pressure of aircrews and to provide evidence for effective prevention and control of hypertension in military aircrews.
METHODS The physical examination data of aircrews collected from various flight sanatoriums (2018) were selected to analyze the effects of different types of aircraft on the blood pressure of aircrews.
RESULTS Significant differences were found in the incidence of high-normal blood pressure and hypertension between the aircrews in different types of aircraft. The correlation coefficients (r) of systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse pressure with different types of aircraft were r = 0.155 (P < 0.01), r = 0.191 (P < 0.01), r = 0.041 (P = 0.172), respectively. There were significant differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressure between the aircrews, younger than 35 years old, in different types of aircraft (F = 6.91, 11.193, P < 0.05). Meanwhile significant differences were found in systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure between the aircrews, aged 35-45 years old, in different types of aircraft (F = 8.98, 8.464, P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse pressure between the aircrews, over 45 years old, in different types of aircraft (F = 0.52, 0.147, 0.874, P > 0.05).
CONCLUSION There were correlations between different types of aircraft and the systolic and diastolic blood pressures respectively. The effect of different types of aircraft on systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse pressure were different in aircrews of the different age group, and this should be taken into account in the individual prevention and treatment of hypertension in aircrews.
