New findings of resveratrol in regulating expression of SIRT1

    • SIRT1 is an NAD+-dependent deacetylase that extends lifespan in lower organisms and prevents many age-related diseases including metabolic disorders. Activated SIRT1 enhances mitochondrial functions and oxidative metabolism and counteracts obesity. Resveratrol is a non-flavonoid polyphenol that belongs to the group of stilbenes and is produced naturally in several plants in response to injury or fungal attack. Therefore, activation of SIRT1 by resveratrol is beneficial for prevention of many age-related diseases and regulation of physiological metabolism.
