Association of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and left atrial enlargement

    • AIM To study the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and left atrial enlargement in patients. METHODS All participants underwent polysomnography (PSG), echocardiography and blood biochemical detection. According to PSG, participants were divided into snoring group (n=41) and OSAS group (n=46). Relevant factors were compared and multiple logistic regression was performed on the variables with significant statistical difference. RESULTS Left atrial diameter (LAD) in OSAS group was higher than that in the snoring group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION The findings of this study show that the severity of OSAS is independently associated with left atrial enlargement.
