Nutritional effect of peptamen junior on patients after open-heart surgery

    • AIM:To compare the nutritional effect of peptamen junior and normal diet on congenital heart disease (CHD) patients after operation. METHODS: Sixty six patients undergoing open-heart surgery were randomized into the peptamen junior group and the normal diet group. Parameters including weight, total protein, and albumin were measured before and after surgery. The length of ICU stay, length of hospital stay, and complication rates were compared after operation. RESULTS: Total protein and albumin in peptamen junior group were statistically higher than those in ordinary diet group. The complication rate in peptamen junior group was statistically lower than that in ordinary diet group. Weight, length of ICU stay and length of hospital stay had no statistical difference. CONCLUSION: Peptamen junior exerts a good nutritional effect on postoperative CHD patients.
