Relationship between fragmented QRS complex and ventricular arrhythmia in patients with acute myocardial infarction

    • AIM:To explore the relationship between fragmented QRS complex (fQRS) and ventricular arrhythmia in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). METHODS: One hundred and forty patients who were diagnosed with AMI were analyzed retrospectively. According to fQRS occurrence in the first 72 h after hospitalization, patients were divided into four groups: with fQRS group (A), without fQRS group (B), with fQRS at two leads group (A1), and with fQRS at more than two leads group (A2). The incidences of all kinds of premature ventricular contraction, ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation were compared. RESULTS: The incidences of all kinds of premature ventricular contraction, ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation in group A were significantly higher than those in group B (P<0.05), and the incidences in group A2 were significantly higher than those in group A1 (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The occurrences of fQRS in AMI patients and ventricular arrhythmia are highly correlated. fQRS may be a predictive factor of ventricular arrhythmia in AMI patients.
