Relationship between senile calcific aortic stenosis and coronary heart disease

    • AIM To explore the relationship between senile calcific aortic stenosis (SCAS) and coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS One hundred and seventy-three patients with SCAS in our hospital were enrolled. Each patient underwent routine examination and coronary angiography. To identify the condition of the coronary artery and Gensini score, statistical analysis was performed. RESULTS Among the 173 patients, 78 were males and 95 females, aged 60-77 years (65.67±6.6 years). Patients were divided into three groups: mild, moderate and severe SCAS according to the average transvalvular pressure of aortic valve. There were 29 patients with CHD according to the results of coronary angiography. The positive rates of CHD in the severe SCAS group, moderate SCAS group and mild SCAS group were 25%, 16%, and 8%, respectively, with statistical difference among the three groups (P=0.036). Average Gensini scores in the mild SCAS group, moderate SCAS group and SCAS severe group were, respectively, 0.906, 1.430 and 5.905, increasing with the higher degree of SCAS. CONCLUSION There is a relationship between SCAS and CHD. The positive rate and severity of CHD have an increasing tendency with the increase in the degree of SCAS.
