Correlation between depression and coronary artery lesion

    • AIM To examine the correlation between depression and the number of coronary artery lesions and the severity of coronary stenosis in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODSThree hundred and fifty-three hospitalized patients with preliminary diagnosis of CHD from January 2014 to January 2015 in our hospital were randomly selected and divided into depression group and non-depression group after Hamilton depression rating scale measurement. Coronary angiography examination was performed in all patients and the number of coronary artery lesions and severity of coronary stenosis were compared between groups. RESULTSThe distribution constituent ratio of the lesion vessel number and the coronary artery stenosis degree was significantly different between groups (both P<0.01). The proportion of grade C and grade D and triple vessel lesions in depression group was significantly higher (36.1%, 38.0% and 37.0%) than those in non-depression group (all P<0.05). The proportion of single vessel lesion and grade A and grade B in non-depression group was significantly higher (44.6%, 31.0% and 31.4%) than those in depression group (all P<0.05). CONCLUSIONThe number of coronary artery lesions is higher and coronary stenosis is more severe in CHD patients with depression.
