Relationship between MK2 and triglyceride in Xinjiang Uygur females

    • AIM:To investigate the association of genetic polymorphisms of mitogen-activated protein kinase activated protein kinase 2 gene (MK2) with triglyceride (TG) in a female Xinjiang Uygur population. METHODS: A total of 595 Uygur females were randomly recruited from the Hetian area. Two single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs44890 and rs45514798) in MK2 gene were selected and genotyped by Taqman-PCR. All subjects underwent questionnaire, physical examination, and measurement of lipid levels and plasma TNF-α. RESULTS: The frequencies of genotypes CC, CT, TT and alleles C, T of the MK2 gene in the normal TG group, the edge of the abnormal group, and the high TG group were different. (P=0.023, 0.004). In Uygur females, no significant difference was found in the concentrations of TG and TNF-α in the three genotypes of rs44890, but a decreasing tendency was observed (CC>CT>TT). In the dominant model, TG was different between CC+CT and CT of rs44890 genotype (CC>CT+TT, P=0.021). None of the alleles and genotypes frequencies of rs45514798 were different in the three TG groups in Uygur females of Xinjiang. CONCLUSION: Our data showed a negative association of rs45514798 with TG in a female Uygur population from the Hetian area of Xinjiang, but the association of rs44890 with TG in Uygur females needs further study.
